MERP is a medical school preparatory program operated by DeVry Medical International, Inc., a subsidiary of DeVry Inc., one of the world’s largest providers of education services. Admission to MERP is limited exclusively to applicants of Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) or American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC).

We invite qualified persons to apply for the position of Staff Accountant for (4 months):

The Temporary Staff Accountant will oversee daily operations in Accounts Payable, Payroll, and maintain accounting procedures, reports, files, and controls. This position includes auditing responsibilities, month-end analysis and reporting, and provides overall support in the accounting and administrative services activities of the campus.

  • Maintains the cash disbursement cycle including recognition and recording of liabilities.
  • Provides local payroll support, with time entry, reconciliation and payroll disbursement.
  • Maintains reimbursement of the petty cash fund.
  • Prepares monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts, and month-end closing spreadsheets, journal entries, and financial reports.
  • Audits asset accounts, expense accounts, purchasing and payable accounts, check requests and invoices, and other financial activities as directed by the Director of Accounting.
  • Assists with the preparation of budget and forecast reports.
  • Assists with the accurate and timely tagging of company assets.
  • Maintains campus and corporate purchasing and accounting procedures.
  • Completes other projects and duties as assigned.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Below are the minimum requirements of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required to competently perform in this position.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration and 2+ years experience in a business office environment required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Must have ability to analyze/discuss data and financial spreadsheets.
  • Excellent math skills desired.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations desired.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals preferred.
  • Must be detail oriented with strong problem solving and time management skills.
  • Experience using Lawson Financial Accounting System and ADP a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees, clients and the general public required.
